BURUNDI IN THE HEADLINES
Dear Readers,
4 radio projects in Bujumbura have lost their licenses: the community radio Ijwi ry’imbabazi, SN News and Muziki FM, and the Voice of Development.
"These radios have got licenses to operate in Burundi. However, they have exceeded the one-year time limit set by law, which stipulates that exceeding a period of one year without working, the license is withdrawn, " said Nestor Bakumukunzi the president of the Burundi National Communication Council in a press briefing.
Elections
The Burundi Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) met this Tuesday with Political party Leaders and candidates for the next elections.
The chairman of CENI called for peaceful electoral competition and condemns the attitude of politicians who indulge in provocation and argument.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discover the samples of the ballot papers which will be used on May 20.
“There are three different specimens because there are three different polls. The ballots for the presidential will be blue, for the legislative it will be green while the one for the municipal election will be red. Each province or municipality has a specific specimen depending on the number of those who have submitted the candidacies, "said Annonciate Niyonkuru, vice-president of Ceni.

COVID Updates
Over the last four days, Djibouti and Somalia have recorded a surge in new cases within a short span. A total of 255 new cases have been recorded in Djibouti during this period, and this is attributed to enhanced testing.
On the other hand, Tunisia, which has the second-highest number of cases in the region recorded relatively low new infections. This may be an indication that the various preventive measures are working.
Since the last situational update on 17 April 2020, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the region increased by 16.68% to 5,009 cases. Regional cases on COVID-19 are summarized in this document.
