This Thursday President Evariste Ndayishimiye officiated the ceremonies around the presentation of the evaluation report of the 3-month campaign against coronavirus in Burundi, executed by the Ministry of Health.
In his report, the Minister of Health Dr. Thadée Ndikumana indicated that the cost of the campaign is estimated at over 10 billion BIF.
He further said that 42,145 people have been tested, 514 have been found positive, 495 cases have been cured, 18 cases under treatment, and 1 case of death.
President Ndayishimiye announced that to achieve an effective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Burundi needs 80 billion BIF to build centers reserved for suspected cases of COVID-19 in each commune.
He invited technical and financial partners to support the efforts of the Burundi Government through the financing of priority actions via the common basket where an account reserved for Covid-19 funds has been created at Burundi Central Bank
The last update on the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 published on September 25, 2020, by the Burundi Ministry of Health mentioned 9 new positive COVID-19 cases, 2 among the 104 travelers by SN Brussels, 1 among 30 from Ethiopian Airlines, and 6 Burundian returnees.
Burundi announced its first coronavirus case on 31. Bujumbura Mairie and Rural, together, account for 85 percent of the total number of cases. To date, 42,145 tests have been completed, and 15 of the 18 provinces reported positive cases.
