Dear Readers,
Burundi celebrated International Labor Day on May 2nd in Muyinga (North of Burundi). In his address to the nation on May 1, 2022, President Evariste Ndayishimiye said that Burundi Labor Day is a special day as Burundians have to work hard to make up for the difficult time that Burundi has gone through.
In achievements, he pointed out that the Government of Burundi, through the Ministry of Labor and Employment in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), recently approved a document on the vision of the country in the field of health and safety of workers, in their place of work (Document of national profile on Health and Safety in the workplace).
According to him, the document will help in the coming days to establish a national health and safety policy in the workplace so that everyone can better understand their rights and responsibilities as Burundian workers. He mentioned that the document will serve as a reference and boost inclusion in the workplace so that no one may be left behind in the process of building the country.
The Head of State also indicated that through the National Employment Agency, the Ministry of Labor and Employment was able to give over 1,000 jobs in the education sector and 224 in the health sector. Meanwhile, the Government is in the process of revising the diplomas of the Ministry of Education’s staff. Up to now, over 1644 diplomas have been examined, and 7 were found fraudulent. Frauds will be taken to court and are expected to pay back over BIF 82,378,498.
