Dear RegionWeek Readers,
It is a pleasure to have once again this opportunity to share updates on Burundi and East Africa. For a month my team and I have had resources and technical challenges, but we are working tirelessly to solve the issue.
With many topics to cover, from Burundi’s new President Strategies, passing through Coronavirus new approach in Bujumbura, and ending on the threats to remove Burundi from the East Africa Community, I wish I could have the time and enough resources to catch you up on where we are heading on each of all these topics.
But as we enter a new season in East Africa, and knowing that Business leaders and decision-makers are trying to put in places tactics to thrive in a Covid-19 environment, my team and I, whenever possible— along with key headlines of what is happening in East Africa, we will share with you tips and opportunities that build new capacities needed to excel in the midst of COVID-19 era.
What to expect this week
The Burundi senatorial electoral campaign that started on June 27 is set to end on July 17. The president of the Electoral Commission calls campaigning candidates to strictly respect the legal and regulatory provisions.
The continuation of Covid-19 mass screening in Bujumbura. For the first week, out of a total of 3,263 samples, 67 cases are positive, of 2% of the people tested according to Dr. Jean Bosco Girukwisha, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health
A number of countries are set to continue gradual relaxation of the strict measures they have had in place even as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the COMESA region.
The appointment of new leaders in Burundi Public Administration is likely to continue this week. This Sunday the Presidential Decree N • 100/025 of July 11, 2020, Appointing the Governors of the Provinces and the Mayor of the City of Bujumbura was published.
