Last Week
The new President of CFCIB
Mr. Olivier Suguru, the new President of the Federal Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burundi (CFCIB in the french acronym) took office and presented his vision. He said his intention is to make the CFCIB an essential partner for businesses, businessmen, and women. He envisions a chamber of commerce committed to the development of Burundi. Mr. Audace Ndayizeye, the outgoing president indicated that he led the CFCIB in an unfavorable socio-economic context but despite everything, his resilience allowed the economy of Burundi to stand. Audace Ndayizeye added that their contribution to the public treasury has enabled Burundi to fully fund all electoral events. New businesses have emerged and many jobs have been created to absorb a growing labor force.
The 32nd edition of the annual Days of the Club of Managers of Banks & Credit Institutions of Africa
Bujumbura hosted at the Kiriri Garden hotel the 32nd Edition of the Annual Days of the Club of Leaders of Banks & Credit Institutions of Africa under the theme: "The current major challenges of African Banks: Lessons from the last crises for the economy and the banks".In his welcome speech, Tharcisse Rutumo, President of ABEF, the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions of Burundi specified that the Annual Days is an opportunity for mutual enrichment through reflection and debate.
"The objective of our work is to find relevant approaches that would make it possible to effectively meet these challenges to better support economic growth on our continent while improving its resilience". Added Mr. Sylvère Bankimbaga the President of the Club of Directors of Banks and Credit Institutions of Africa.
Many themes and panels took place among which the Regulation, Compliance, and Post-crisis risk management, and financial inclusion. The summit was also an opportunity for the Club of Leaders of Banks and Credit Institutions of Africa to sign a cooperation agreement with the Association of Banks of Africa from the West.
What to expect this week
Burundi will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Independence
After analysis of the bill amending Act No. 1/35 of December 31, 2014, on the organic framework of religious confessions in Burundi, the Burundi Parliament passed it unanimously last Friday, this week expect religious readers to comment on various dispositions included in the bill, the most expected comment is from the President of Senate, Senator Emmanuel Sinzohagera, last month he has raised some concern about new regulations on the religious organization, he is himself a Pastor.
Ban on the butchering of Cows, Goats, and Sheep throughout the Bujumbura Province. This decision taken by the directorate responsible for animal diseases in this province has been in effect since June 26, 2022. We expect to learn more about this disease and will monitor the prices of meats in the city of Bujumbura.
The US embassy in Bujumbura will commemorate the 246th Anniversary of the United States of America, among the activities is a reception by Amb. Melanie H. Higgins On Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

International Day of the Tropics on 29 June celebrates the extraordinary diversity of the tropics while highlighting unique challenges and opportunities nations of the Tropics face. It provides an opportunity to take stock of progress across the tropics, share tropical stories and expertise, and acknowledge the diversity and potential of the region. Join with us and others from around the world to launch the 2022 State of the Tropics focus report, and reflect on how COVID-19 has impacted lives in the Tropics. In December 2016 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/71/90, declaring 30 June International Asteroid Day in order to "observe each year at the international level the anniversary of the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation, on 30 June 1908, and to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard." International Asteroid Day aims to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard and to inform the public about the crisis communication actions to be taken at the global level in case of a credible near-Earth object threat.
